This is my first day officially home for the stay in place
and my secret beard continues to progress. When I was shaving my neck this
morning, I realized I didn’t really know where the beard-line should be (which
I later learned is better known as the “beard neckline”).So, I Googled “famous
beards through history.” It was not helpful in the slightest – I don’t know why
I thought it would be.
Then, I Googled “where should my beard neckline be” and
there were quite a few results. According to Norelco, the beard neckline is at
the top of the Adam’s apple. This is incredibly far down the neck, I refuse to
believe it and, frankly, I’m offended that they even suggest it. However,
according to the seeming consensus among other beard-related sites, I am
apparently shaving my neck too far up. On the plus side, this means even more work
removed from my already considerably lightened shaving regimen; on the
downside, part of my neck has some catching up to do, but I think it’s up for
the challenge.
I finish by Googling “glorious beards” for inspiration and
am, indeed, inspired, but also somewhat intimidated. So, I Google “modest
beards” for something more attainable. Among
the results was an excerpt of a book called “Of Beards and Men,” which is about
the history of beards. It was surprisingly
engrossing – I may have to purchase it so I can knowledgeably extoll the
virtues of being a part of this rich tradition in advance of Terri’s inevitable
protests when she realizes what I’m doing (which I predict will be tomorrow).
